Portus Farelcollege welcomes over 500 visitors during Farel Festival

Ridderkerk - Last Friday, the Portus Farelcollege in Ridderkerk welcomed around 500 visitors during the annual Farel Festival. Pupils from groups 7 and 8, parents, and other interested parties got an insight into the education and atmosphere of the school.

On the square and in the corridors of the Farelcollege, visitors could follow a route along various themed areas. Children and parents discovered, among others, the art square, music square, sports square, language square, professions square, and science square. Each area highlighted a different aspect of education, from creativity and sports to technology, global citizenship, and language skills.

Campus director Corine Sluimers looks back on the festival with pride: “We want visitors to immediately feel what Portus Farelcollege stands for: warmth, personal attention, and ambition. And when you see how enthusiastically students are making bubble tea themselves or demonstrating chemistry experiments and inviting visitors into their world, you see our school at its best.”

Visitors also gained a comprehensive view of educational developments at Farel. For example, prospective pre-university and senior general secondary education students showed great interest in TTO (Bilingual Education), where students take part of their subjects in English and develop international skills. Challenge Based Learning (CBL) also received a lot of attention. In this new subject at Farel Lyceum, students work on real-life challenges from society, which they investigate, analyze, and ultimately try to solve practically. CBL encourages collaboration, creative thinking, and ownership—qualities that Farel greatly values. And which give students a head start at universities of applied sciences and universities.

As a follow-up to the festival, Portus Farelcollege is organizing an in-depth open house on January 29, where parents and students are once again warmly welcome. For more information and to register, go to: open house
