At the pre-vocational secondary education (mavo), students mainly work at school, in a calm and supervised environment, which creates more peace and structure at home. The mavo is small-scale and personal, with plenty of guidance for the student. This way, they are well prepared for further education at mbo or havo.
From who you are, to who you will become!
At Farel’s mavo, we do things differently: most of your homework is done at school, during supervised study periods in a calm environment with help from teachers. This way, you go home with an empty bag and have more time and clarity at home. The school is small-scale and safe, so everyone knows each other and teachers are approachable. Your mentor is a dedicated guide for you and your parents, following your learning process step by step. This way, you feel seen, supported, and well guided.
This is what your timetable could look like:

Our first-year class is a combined mavo/havo class, where students can calmly discover which level suits them best during their first year. The class is small-scale and personal, with a lot of attention given to guidance.
In the second year of mavo, students can also choose to study French and German.
The mavo is also known as the vmbo theoretical pathway (vmbo tl), but in addition to theory, there is also a lot of focus on practical experience within the mavo. For example, you will do an internship in year 3 and we teach you skills that are very useful in practice, such as finding an internship position yourself.
In year three, you choose a profile:
From year 3 onwards, you follow the Practice-Oriented Program (PGP). These are real-life assignments: organizing an event, setting up a sustainability project, or collaborating with a local company. You will discover that what you learn really matters and you will build practical skills for your future.
Sporty & active
With us, you can take an exam in LO2: an extra sports subject where you learn more than just physical activity. You develop perseverance, learn to work together, and get the chance to organize sports activities.
With a mavo diploma, you have two options:
We help you discover what suits you and make sure you are well prepared to continue.
