Learning by doing and discovering together
RIDDERKERK – On Thursday, October 31, Farelcollege opened its doors to curious students from group 8. During the annual Open Bridge Class Day, they got a taste of the atmosphere of secondary education. The day was packed with activities: from biology to sports, from English to art – everywhere, children could participate and experience what it’s like to be a student at Farel.
The break was also part of the experience: between lessons, the students enjoyed a cozy break with something nice to drink and a snack. “We want children to really feel what it’s like to be at school here,” says teacher Anouk Goossens. “The combination of action, meeting new people, and personal attention makes the day special every year.”
While the students walked around, primary school teachers were warmly welcomed in the education café. There, they talked with Farel teachers about their former students. Group 8 teachers were thus informed about how their former students are doing in secondary school. In this video, you get an impression of how the morning went! Click here for the aftermovie.
Looking ahead: the Farel Festival
The next opportunity to experience Farel is the Farel Festival on Friday, November 21.
It’s a festive afternoon and evening full of workshops, trial lessons, performances, and presentations – not only from the Lyceum, but also from mavo and vmbo-bk. Visitors can participate, watch, and experience how learning comes to life at Farel.
“The Farel Festival is a celebration of learning,” says principal Corine Sluimers. “You see students in action – in the lab, on stage, in the gym, and in our Campus lessons. That’s who we are: a school that works together on your future.”
Renewed Farel Lyceum
During the Farel Festival, students and parents will get to know the renewed Farel Lyceum – a place for contemporary education where students are prepared for tomorrow. Through inquiry-based, creative, and self-aware learning, they develop their talents with Challenge Based Learning, Bilingual Education, and plenty of room for personal growth.
