Learning with challenges

Education for Today

The world around you is changing at lightning speed. That’s why at Farelcollege Lyceum you don’t just take regular classes, but also explore real-world questions from your surroundings. We call this Challenge Based Learning. Together with your classmates, you work on such a Challenge, deepening your knowledge and searching for creative and practical solutions. This way, you don’t just learn facts, but also develop skills such as collaboration, research, design, and critical thinking. With Challenge Based Learning, we look beyond the classroom: you might visit a company, attend a guest lecture from a professor, or go on a city excursion somewhere in Europe.

That’s why Farel Lyceum is the school for researchers, entrepreneurs, and culture enthusiasts! It’s the school where you learn deeply and earn your VWO or HAVO diploma in a challenging way.

Are you ready for tomorrow?

Farellyceum

Three building blocks

The education at Farel Lyceum consists of three building blocks. Throughout all of this, there is a clear common thread.

At Farel Lyceum, you discover the world from multiple perspectives. The common thread in our education is entrepreneurship, creativity & culture, and research & science. This way, you learn not only facts, but also how to think critically, come up with new ideas, and take initiative. Education for today. Ready for tomorrow!

Building Block 1

Learning with real challenges

At Farel Lyceum, you will work with CBL. This means you will tackle real-life challenges. For example, you might work on a project about how to keep the earth healthy or research how products travel from the port of Rotterdam to destinations all over the world.

Huh?! Why am I learning this?

Because you are working on real-world issues, you will better understand why you are learning something. This not only makes learning more interesting, but also easier to remember. In this way, you learn more deeply, retain the material longer, and can truly apply what you learn in everyday life.

From theatre and Spanish to sports and art, there is something fun for everyone. These activities give you the opportunity to explore, take initiative, and broaden your cultural horizons. This way, you stay ahead, both at school and beyond.

Building Block 3

Subject lessons

In addition to the challenges, you will of course also have regular subject lessons. These provide you with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills. This way, we ensure a good balance between clear explanations and room for creativity. You learn for the tests and you learn to think critically, collaborate, and find creative solutions.

Also useful to know

You can choose bilingual education

Did you know that you can also follow bilingual education (tto) with us? This means that you will receive part of your lessons in English! Perfect for budding world travelers. Every year, you’ll travel abroad, both at havo and vwo level! Interested? Read more about bilingual education here.

We value your growth!

That’s why we want to know what you find important and where you want to grow. Your mentor guides you every week, and three times a year you have a “growth conversation” with your mentor and your parents/guardians. We help you achieve your goals.

You also receive support in learning how to learn. We help you learn effectively and make a good schedule. And if you have dyslexia, you will of course receive the right support as well.

A separate pre-university class and combined classes

We have a separate pre-university (vwo) class and combination classes. A combination class is a first-year class where students from two educational levels, for example havo and vwo, are together in one class. This way, during your first year, you have the time to discover which level suits you best. After that, you choose together with the school the level that offers you the most challenge.

HAVO opportunity class

Have you received a mavo recommendation? Would you like to go to havo lyceum but are not yet sure if it suits you? Then the havo opportunity class is perfect for you! In this class, you will discover whether you can handle the challenges of havo and where your talents lie. At the end of the year, we will look together at which step suits you best.

There is a separate building for the first-year students.

Help, those older students are so tall! At Farelcollege, you don’t have to feel like a tiny first-year student. For mavo, havo, and vwo, we have a special building just for the lower grades.
